Overview

It was a Monday morning around 5 am when my mate Kyle Anderson and I decided to go for a quick run before work. We met up and loaded the dogs which were Harry a two-year-old hairy dog finder lugger and Cliffy a six-month-old hairy pup. Upon arriving at the first block, we didn’t have to travel far driving our way along a creek that leads to a dam. All of a sudden the dogs floated and started to dig the nails in. Kyle and I stopped the car and listened with no noise and the dogs working for a long time in the same spot. We decided to run up to where the dogs were, and bang there he was a massive earless boar in the dam with just his nose sticking out of the Lilly pads. As we seen him so did the dogs, the big boar jumped up and it was on. I think this big fella had been in this position a couple of times as the dogs went to hit him he roared towards them like a grizzly bear and come at them with his mouth open trying to grab and shake them to pieces.

This went on for about 10 minutes. It’s hard to have to watch your mates go to battle, and we felt a bit helpless. These dogs are usually very hard hangers but they smartened up and decided to bail and to be honest, I couldn’t blame them. Eventually, the boar backed up into the dam and I sneaked around behind him he heard me coming at the last minute and shoot into the dam. The dogs saw their opportunity and pounced on the big earless fella. As they held him in the lily pads I made my way over and dispatched him. It was just one of those moments where you wish you bought a gun. Kyle & I will never forget this earless and fearless brawler. Was a great way to start a Monday.
